Do you ever wonder where you get your fashion inspiration? Your style? Your fashion mojo? Well last week it all came very clear to me. I was on vacation with my mom in Mexico. For the record my mother is a fashionista of the first order. Never to be outdone she is always a few seasons ahead of the masses. Just when I think I’ve got the latest style down she shows up and shows me up. Not that it’s a competition or anything.
Anyway, prior to leaving for our week away I called her and said, “Hey mom, if you have any hand-me-downs bring them along—pleassseeeee.” Of course this gave her a reason to spend some time weeding out her closet to make room for next season’s silhouettes.
When I arrived at the airport the next day my mom had an oversized shopping bag in hand filled with high-end long sleeved black t-shirts (DKNY, Michael StarsVince, etc.) a beautiful black cashmere turtleneck a few workout tops in turquoise and pink and a black/purpleish rain coast. It was like getting a bag of clothing from myself. Half of the items she brought me were already hanging in my closet. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree you see.
So now, I am the proud owner of 37 fabulous black items (including a lot of long sleeved black t-shirts). I guess I will be wearing black this season, albeit very chic black thanks to mom.

I like to “shop” in my friend’s closets who have really good clothes. No money exchanged, only clothes I borrow for events I need to go to. The friends are my inspirations!! They like to dress me and I like the way I feel in their threads!! Sounds nice, Sally, that you had quality time with your mom in Mexico – she sounds cute!!
