Need a boost in your diet conviction? This HBO documentary on the of the death of the NY garment industry ties together all the pieces of America’s desperate moral decline in the last 15 years: deregulation, consumerism, union-bashing, celebrity culture, etc. Finally, the staggering annihilation of the garment district reads like a microcosm for the global economic collapse. Less than 5% of manufactured apparel is made in the US now (it used to be above 90% only several decades past).

The only part of the apparel business that remains in the US is the marketing piece. Perhaps the diet needs a name correction?

I love this post. I just tweeted it. It is very depressing how everyone wants things so so cheap, so in the end, people don’t make things here in the US anymore. I can’t tell you how many people have suggested to me that I go make my product in China or wherever. Good post.
