1/31/11!  I have not purchased a single piece of clothing yet despite being in a department store  1/4/11 trying on clothes.  I was glad the clothes didn’t fit me.  Now when I “shop” (out of habit) I think to myself “I really hope I find something wrong with this item”.  Yes, I’ll try to stay away from the malls, I don’t even like malls.  I’m more of a consignment/thrift store bargain shopper..unless we’re buying  shoes.

I am justifying the need to buy another beige bra….because I left mine behind while on vacation in Hawaii over the holidays.  I forgot to look behind the bathroom door on our way out of the unit we were staying in.  Dang it!  We rented a unit from two guys who lived in the main house in Kailua, Hawaii.  They probably found my bra and threw it away, I was too embarrassed to go back there and ask them for it.  I loved that bra too.  When you find one that works for you (finally!) you buy a couple (or more) and cherish them….am I right?  Like swim suits, it’s nearly impossible for me to find a bra and fits well.  My loss.  I even went to Victoria’s Secret to find one just like it but they don’t have the same style anymore….my beige bra was over 5 years old!   It had the best cups….I could throw them in the wash and hand them dry and the cups wouldn’t get all bumpy and out of shape like some other brands…I am still grieving the loss.  Any tips on finding one like that?  And it has to be wire less too.

My mantra for the month…”All is well in the world.  I have everything I need right here in my closets”….except for the one bra.

According to an article posted in The Sun, a UK newspaper you can save yourself over 100 hours (or about 1 week) of your time by not shopping for clothes this year!  Apparently the average woman spends nearly three years over their lifetime just shopping. While you obviously can’t give up shopping for food and household necessities, you can choose not to shop for clothing this year and save yourself a full week’s time for vacation and use the money that you didn’t spend to fund your new trip; wow!  I suspected this might be the case, but this is the first written evidence (outside of my own entry) that seems to confirm it.  So spend a bit of the time that you won’t use to shop this week and start planning for your next winter ski trip or Carribean cruise!

Last year I made the choice to stop purchasing new clothes, and this year I have chosen not to purchase any clothes at all. So far, so good. In fact, I don’t even miss the endless, mindless shopping and I’ve decided to put my saved cash toward something fun, my first vacation in 5 years. My husband and I chose to head out to Park City, Utah for some pretty intense snowboarding. We traveled with friends to keep the expense down, but really enjoyed ourselves and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to go. My three lifestyle changes that I have implemented have made the trip possible. No smoking, means that I could still breathe and be active at 11,000+ feet, getting up early and working out prepared me for four straight days of hardcore riding, and the money that I didn’t spend on clothes helped to fund the trip. I finally feel unencumbered, rather than just sacrificing by participating.
