OK. Just came back from Nordstrom. I had to get some nice underthings for a black dress I am wearing to the Humane Society Auction. The rules say we can shop for underwear, so here is what I bought: One fantastic Wacoal black bra, one “Commando” (yes, that is the name) black slip, and some hosiery. However, when I was in hosiery I might have crossed a Great American Apparel diet line. I had to have these capri things that go under your dress, I consider them hosiery. And…they were in that department. Plus they go under so I can even safely say under thing. I loved shopping today. I went with my friend Anna. I do not understand people who hate shopping. I find myself wondering, what happened to these people? Did they go shopping with someone really mean when they were kids? Was there a cruel sales person in their past? Anyway, very hard to give up shopping, I am grateful to have the room for underwear, shoes and accessories. Also, I haven’t had sugar or honey or maple syrup or anything in over a week, so today was my reward for being so sugar free.
A few days ago, Sally came to my shop and gave me a fantastic sweater. She also gave me a blue 3/4 sleeve top…on the tag is says “Anne Fontaine Paris” and that make me feel fancy. Her website is annoying, though. Sorry Anne Fontaine! The wrap around sweater has beautiful flowers on the shoulder and the tag says Taxi CDC. Never heard of that one…doesn’t sound fancy. After going to the website I see it is a recycled clothing company, which I love! Now this sweater is my favorite sweater! I almost wore it two days in a row. This apparel diet is turning out pretty good for me. Thanks Sally! I owe pictures of my Via Spiga faux shearling coat from Bluefly and these two things, too.
Now, off to work on the redesign of my website www.beautyalert.biz because we have three gorgeous doctors who recommend our system!
Hi. I went to a play reading last night at Solo Bar on Roy street. The group New Century Theater Company put on a play reading, and all the cute actresses showed up to watch the event in their outfits. I noticed that the trend was a little dress, above the knee, leggings and boots. Kind of like back in 1989 when I first moved here! Minus the Doc Martins. Anyway….I started hankering for this look. I have the leggings. But, no little dress. I stared to feel so bad that I didn’t have the little dress. There is a store called Queen Anne Dispatch by my shop, and on my break I went in. I tried on 8 little dresses. One of the owners was there, she knew I was on this diet. She said “won’t Sally be mad at you?” Well, I just saw Sally. She laughed and said someone in the group said I was constantly cheating. Hey, this is only four times! Yes, this is the fourth time. I got a little navy tunic by Trinity. It was on sale, too! Only $42.00. Am I the biggest cheater? Or am I the only one who confesses????
I have some customers that are style mavens, and Dr. Dori McLennan is one of them. There are some women I see and I feel like I simply must get out of this deal I made with Sally ( to not shop for clothes for a year). Dori is so gorgeous and so put together. I have these clients who are doctors and lawyers, and if you cast an actress that fabulous to play these people….it just would not seem realistic! Dr. McLennan has great taste. I can’t wait to see what she is wearing next.
Tonight, I went out with my friend Anna Boynton. She and her husband Ken (I set them up on a blind date…hello yenta!) have a corporate coaching and entertainment business, and so Anna is always dressed to the nines. Tonight we went to dinner at my new fav place, Emmer and Rye. Anna had on this blue top from Velvet that had a deep V, gorgeous soft cotton…made for ME. ME! I have to have that top. God. I hate this diet. Anyway, enjoy this gorgeous photo of Dr. Dori McLennan, she is a goddess.
Beauty Alert! has been blogged about in Teen Vogue. I love it. Let me see if I can get a link going here http://www.teenvogue.com/beauty/blogs/beauty/2010/01/dont-spoil-your-beauty-routine.html
Did it work? I hope so. No new cheating extravaganzas for me. I am holding steady. I do want to quit eating so much chocolate and other naughty things….
OK, I go through all the trouble to cheat on this diet, all the angst and guilt, and I get the coat and the buttons fall off. Man. What is it with new clothes? These companies can’t do a decent job of sewing on buttons? Does this happen to other people? Maybe I am being punished for cheating. I got a Via Spiga faux shearling coat at Bluefly.com. It is made out of god knows what, but I do love the way it looks. Or at least I did before the buttons fell off. I have worn it maybe five times, so what is the story? OK, there is my rant. I have cheated on this diet three times. And my “no sugar” is not going so well, either. Ever since I got my braces off I cannot stop eating. Help me.
Last night, I attended “Future Shack” an event celebrating and discussing the role of design and architecture in our lives and in our neighborhoods. I thought, here is a casual event where I will not be tempted to cheat on this “no new clothes diet”. I guessed it was going to be a room full of people coming from a relaxed, sunny, Sunday day off. Boy, was I wrong. The women at this event really had it going on!!! A woman on the panel had on a simple pencil skirt, perfectly tailored–and the ultimate wardrobe staple: the perfect white button down blouse. Another women, one of the co-chairs of the event, had on the cutest Cole Haan ballet flats in a light pink with some metallic going on, and she wore a gorgeous pink (with a sheen to it) blouse. You never know what will make you crave shopping! I didn’t take pictures of the shoes and tops because people were talking about how buildings can impact our lives, how design can minimize our footprint, and I didn’t want to seem like a dumbass changing the subject to shoes and clothes…but I did ask about the Cole Haan flats with Nike Air insoles…..
