Bridal Gear Details I Am Perhaps the Biggest Cheater
Mar 09
Nicole

Dilemma: I spilled some noxious chemical last week (too much to get into here, no bodily injuries were sustained). However, I got it on my clothes, some of my FAVORITE clothes. Nothing terribly fabulous or lovely, but I wear them all the time – Prana yoga pants, SmartWool sweater (can you say “machine washable wool?”) and my BearPaw boots. Like I said, nothing terribly special, I mean BearPaws are Ugg wannabes!

This is KILLING me. Do I replace? Do I sacrifice and go without? Just where does damaged clothing due to a toxic spill fit into this whole gig? Isn’t the whole point to sacrifice?!?

I am very committed to this whole she-bang and have not cheated or even thought of cheating (so far).

So, I haven’t decided what to do. (I should mention that when I signed up, I opted to include shoes in my sacrifice. Seemed like the right thing to do at the time. But I’m not so sure anymore.)

Part of me is seeking blessings and approvals from you all, but part of me needs to just figure it out on my own. Just where do I stand on giving myself permission to “cheat” because of this loss I feel for something as materialistic as clothing? Or am I making too much out of this?

I’m not sure what to advise. Can you go without for say a week and see what happens? If that works, try a month? It is just one outfit, so maybe you can make do.

Now if your entire wardrobe had been lost in a fire or something, then yes, you would have to “break the rules”.

I believe that new shoes are allowed under the terms of TGAAD, so if you can afford it and really want them, replace the shoes.

My opinion… make do. You have the chance to find a new, awesome gem that already exsists in your wardrobe, and turn to those instead.

With the shoes, I think you should definitely wait a bit before you replace them – see if there are others in your collection that can fill the gap before going back to the familiar.

I’m running into this same issue now. My 5 year old black cardigan that I wear to work at least once a week has finally worn holes through at the elbows. It’s a very fine, thin gauge cotton and patches can’t be hidden. If this was for casual wear I could do a variety of things to it, but it’s for work…..ugh. I have 2 other cardigans; green and white. How does one live with no black cardigan :(

Oh…I say spring is around the corner! Wait a couple of weeks, then get something perfect for spring that fits the “not-too-expensive…but I LOVE ‘em” category. The best are the items we just wear love to wear over and over again.

I feel your pain… I have 2 pairs of jeans and I think one of them has about given up the ghost. I think you should see if you can make it without! what did you decide?

Same boat – found this am that my go to black wool work pants now sport a white shiny spot above one knee. Realized that this diet thing has stuck when instead of putting them in the giveaway bin, my first thought was to talk to my mom (who sews) about repurposing them for a skirt. Or shorts. Work shorts??? Anyway, definitely hear all of you, and am eager how to learn how you resolved your respective dilemmas.

Thanks for all your support and opinions! I’m still torn, no decisions have been made. It’s been a full week since the “incident” and I’m not feeling too much pain, but did spend about an hour online last night trying to find the same exact sweater.

BTW – my non-dieter friends and family have all told me to buy something to replace and told me it’s “a sign.” Just what does that mean I ask you? I get the feeling they think I’m a bit nutty for doing TGAAD…

I had almost the same problem a few weeks ago. For years (5-7, not sure) I wore two pajama trousers – a black checkered one and a red checkered one. Within a few days, they both fell apart (and I mean it literally). Now, I do have some shorts for summer, but it’s still winter…so I went and bought me a new pair. When they’re in the laundry, I sleep in my trainers. They’re warm. :) I will buy more new after this diet is over, or I’ll sew them by myself.
So, if you really have no replacement, buy new clothes. By now you know if you should. :)
