I’M IN! Here are my cheats, and some non cheats, too.

In the grand scheme of the things going on in my life personally (and the world in general) right now, fashion seems so incredibly trivial.  Previously, I spent little time, energy or thought on fashion and apparel.  Paradoxically, however, this “diet” is causing me to think, talk, write about, and expend more energy on apparel-related “stuff” than I ever would have prior to the diet… go figure.

I don’t think I’m alone in this, however.  Although we’ve all sworn off clothing purchases, somehow our blogs are filled with descriptions of expensive cashmere sweaters, high-fashion dresses, premium jeans, trendy skirts and the best fashion-related web sites.

Ironic, isn’t it… logging onto TGAAD and reading about everyone’s beloved brands of apparel, go-to clothing stores and favorite clothes purchases?  It’s akin to listening to friends’ vivid descriptions of their favorite cookies, best-loved desserts and preferred chocolatiers when you’re on a low-calorie no-carb diet!irony

Cathy, have you seen a few of the posts that talk more about the origin’s of apparel? I think people are really re-thinking materialism (some people are). I especially loved hearing about http://www.thestoryofstuff.com, super interesting. I recently read a wonderful book called Tinsel. It is about our consumer society. I think there is more to this blog than people talking aobut clothes they covet and more about the origins of style and how apparel makes them feel. Ultimately it is a statement on our society in genearl.
