Layers, layers, layers Dress Needs a Home, and a Sad Purple Shirt

Well, I’m new to this group, but I have lurked and followed it for a few months now. One of the reasons I wanted to join was to begin to start organizing my life a bit more. As I “mature” I find that I get frustrated with too much stuff in my life. Stuff that I have accumulated and seem to have a problem with letting go when it is no longer useful. Yes, I have a pack-rat sort of problem!

I know I feel better and happier in a clean, tidy organized environment, but getting there and STAYING there is a struggle for me. Not adding to the pile is a way of starting to get where I want to be. Not buying clothes and instead using what I have (a lot!) will help.

Okay, I needed some sort of exercise to get going with this. I decided to conquer my scary sock drawer. For the past (more than) few months, I have not been able to open or shut my sock drawer without it sticking or jamming due to too much stuff in there. I finally sat down and culled the collection and got it somewhat organized.

I even took pictures!

Okay, it is a small step and I have a LOT more culling to do, but it is a start, right?

What I love about this group is the freedom FROM always purchasing, purchasing… When I go to a shopping mall, and see “70% off sale” in the Banana Republic window, I practically feel compelled to go in and buy something, anything, because Gosh Darn-it, it is such a good deal! Yet at the same time it feels burdensome because EVERY store seems to have the same sign and then I feel I need to check all of them.

Being part of TGAAD gives me a reason and permission to abandon the pressure of over purchasing. I actually walked away from a favorite store the other day feeling relieved that I did not have to go in and buy something just because it was there and just because it was on sale.

Gee this sounds just like me – except that it is my underwear drawer that keeps getting stuck – those bras and panties must be procreating or something – and when I started this, I actually was planning on getting more – so far, I have put that shopping trip off, even tho it was an allowable purchase… I really don’t need more, I just need to dig deeper to find the matches and do the laundry!!

Oh and the gloves I bought – rationalizing that they were “underwear for hands” – lost already at the US Skating Championships first night….. payback for cheating??? Again, I won’t have cold hands, I have more… they were really not needed….

Yeah, I need to get to the bra and pantie drawer next. I can still open it, but that is just because it is a big deep drawer!

The gloves are accessories, allowable I think on this plan. Sorry you lost them. That is so frustrating.

    Thank you for the comment.
