countdown to midnight… Ready to Start!

Unlike most other participants of TGAAD I haven’t bought many clothes in the past. As I am quite tall it is just impossible to find something that fits.

Last year I bought 3 cardigans, 1 warm winter jacket and 1 bolero. I think some of you will have bought that in a week.

But I have an other vice: buying fabric. I’m a sewer because there is no other possibility for me to get clothes that don’t look like they are borrowed from the little sister I don’t have.

So this will be a year of not buying any fabric and not buying any clothes. And I hope this will be a year of sewing clothes from the stash of fabric I already own.

I’m a sewer too but have not made it a priority in the last few years. I have tubs and tubs of fabric and I have already started planning and plotting out what I’m going to sew. I just picked apart a robe that I love the style and hate the fabric and I’m whipping up another one just like it, using the old one as my pattern. I look forward to using this creative outlet and feeling more resourceful!

I know what you mean! I’m 5′ 11″ and rarely go to department stores, because it’s just frustrating – nothing fits me right. They have Petite departments, but have you ever seen a Tall Women’s department? Nope – it’s like we don’t exist. I tend to buy clothes online – mostly Eddie Bauer. That doesn’t always work out, because I can’t try things on before buying them and waste money on shipping fees when I have to return them.

I realized fairly quickly after joining GAAD that I would have to include fabric as well as clothes. I have so much fabric, a stash that got much bigger after I found a fantastic and affordable fabric store (wools for $4.99). Part of my plan for this year is to work on clearing my closet and working through my fabric stash. It’s time to get to work on those projects, especially the ones where I have the pattern, the fabric, the thread, and all the notions. If I can get through half of these, the year will be a success!!

In Germany you actually find sometime tall Women’s departements but the things they sell there are still way too short as I’m 6′2” (1,87m) tall.
There exists one Boutique far away where I can get pants that are long enough. But sleeves are still short, even in this store.
So I really have to sew, but I enjoy it too.

But before I start sewing clothes from my wonderful fabric stash (I got some wonderful wools that were 4$ or buttons for 0,20$), I will have to finish the various sewing projects I haven’t finished yet.
