This diet is killing me. KILLING ME I tell ya! Are we really only 6 weeks into it? That’s insane. I’m gagging for new clothes already. I don’t think I actually realised how frequently I bought clothes.
I used to order a LOT of clothes from my Next Directory (not sure if you have Next in the states?). Anyway, they send me regular, shiny, hard backed catalogues that look lovely on my coffee table! They’re full of beautiful pictures of gorgeous models in stunning locations wearing amazing clothes, smiling lovingly at me from their glossy pages. Every Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer they send, not one, but two catalogues – one for clothing and one for home. Then, every winter, they send a “Christmas” book and every summer a “Summer” book full of lots of lovely “additional” items that aren’t in the main catalogues. They scream at me to buy…. I don’t even have to drag my sorry ass from the sofa. I can simply log on and order away, clicky, clicky….. (after all, everyone knows it’s not real money when you buy on credit) and lovely new clothing gets delivered directly to my door. Simples!
As the season changes and the nights are drawing in and the weather gets colder, I can’t help but flick, dreamily through the new season collections in the brand spanking new “Christmas” book they’ve just sent, drooling over lovely funnel neck coats and wooly winter dresses…. aaaaah……
The biggest challenge I’m facing so far is that I’m planning a snowboarding trip to Canada in December. I’m soooo gonna need new clothes for that. I even need new boarding gear…. Oh, what to do?!!!!
This is proving much harder than I ever expected and I’ve started to wonder…. Can I get through this? How over dramatic and ridiculous does that sound? There are people living in abject poverty all over the world, people who NEVER wear anything new, and I can’t manage a year? I suddenly feel very ashamed of myself. I have a wardrobe FULL of clothes….. what is WRONG with me??!
Looks like you may need to go on the modified version, like myself, and get it out on a second hand item! Especially for your trip to Canada. For myself, I am resolving to not buy anything apparel-wise – at all, not even second-hand – until Christmas. That’s my new resolve. Did I really just put that on paper (now I’ll have to stick with it)?
Not sure of the rules but what if you sold some of your old clothes on ebay and then used only the money that you got from them to buy new clothes???? It’s just like swapping them really (see how I am rationalising it!)
I would love to join this diet but all my clothes from last summer are Maternity or from 3 seasons ago!!!
Rebecca, do not listen to Jill. Do not buy anything!!!!
Maybe you could organize a clothing swap with some friends that way you get new to you clothes without buying anything.
Rebecca, I know how you feel. I keep seeing ads for New york and Company and I get my W mag. Oh the temptation! We can do it though and we will be better people for it!!
Give yourself a fashion shoe from you closet. Pull everything out and try it all on again! Bring a friend it’ll be fun!
Sorry guys ~ didn’t know that second hand was such an issue.Didn’t mean any harm “buy” it!
Ooooh Jill, like it! Time for a pun down!!
If I can’t buy clothes I’m gonna treat myself to a new bag – the one you let the cat out off!
