I have some major interviews coming up (one being today) and as I am preparing I realized, my suit jackets don’t fit. I never wear suit jackets so its not a surprise that I haven’t noticed that they no longer fit.
Over the past two years I have lost about 30 pounds and have gradually been adjusting my wardrobe. Unfortunately I neglected my suits and now I am trying to decide whether I should wear a suit jacket that is too big or some other stylish professional look that excludes the jacket. I know I should probably take my jackets to a tailor so I don’t have to buy new, but what do I wear today….
I will probably not wear the jacket because I will be uncomfortable and not relaxed for the interview. But it brings up a good question: Should you wear what you are “supposed” to wear to an interview or something that looks great is professional and makes you more comfortable?
Alison: don’t wear a jacket that doesn’t fit and makes you look sloppy. 1st impressions are too important! Wear a dress with or without a cardigan sweater that ties it together or a tailored shirt over pants/skirt. You’ll be fine without a suit jacket. Looking put together in clothes that fit will make a good impression and then let the interviewer focus on your fabulous self. Good luck!
Always wear something you are comfortable in for any interview. A nice cardigan and dress pants are classic and modern. Wearing soemthing that fits you will not only look better, but will also help you feel more at ease during your interview.
Good Luck!
Alison, what I want to know is how did you lose the weight?
Do you have anyone you could borrow a suit from? If not, I totally agree that a skirt/dress pants and sweater would look very nice.
Thanks Ladies!
I ended up wearing a pair of dress pants and a fitted shirt. The interview went well, but I may stay at my current job for now.
Sally, As for the weight, I stopped eating fast food every night of the week. In college I use to eat fast food like it was water. I have only had McDonald’s once in the past year and a half! Also try to limit your intake of unnatural foods, like high fructose corn syrup and other chemically altered foods.
