saving money ON THE PARADOXICAL NATURE OF BEING A TGAAD MEMBER

Hello Friends,
I’ve joined your group. Thanks for including me among this elite group of wise women. I am grateful that I have joined the Great American Apparel Diet. I was so encouraged when I read that there were other women like me out there. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

So this has been my strategy thus far. Stay away from the stores, although I did go into Talbot’s and I ran into a friend’s husband who was purchasing the clothes his wife had selected for her Christmas presents. As I was purchasing a gift, I did NOT buy anything for myself, which is rare indeed. About twenty years ago, I discovered a holiday shopping strategy that was one for you and one for me. Not this year. However, this fine man asked me what I was purchasing and I told him, “I am on The Great American Apparel Diet” and he just scoffed. . .
“You’ll break that in no time.” Just the motivation I needed. Those words have been ringing in my head.
How do I feel? Lighter, more creative, especially with how I look at my wardrobe. Don’t let me portrait this endeavor as not a big deal, because it is hell! I’ll see an item that is calling my name, and I have to smile and walk away.
For me, remembering what is already hanging in my closet that I love helps. So that is my goal with this project –to have only items in my closet that I LOOOOOVE. Too many times in the past couple of years, I have purchased items that I didn’t love. A mistake which I have not usually made in the past but began to do in recent years.
My goal is to simplify my closet by keeping only those items that I truly love. My favorite jeans, shoes, tops, jackets, coats, sweaters and dresses. Oh, one last thing. I have two new dresses in my closet that I purchased for a wedding – one if it was a cold day and one if it was a warm day – New England autumn wedding and I didn’t get to wear either one because my dog was very ill and I couldn’t attend the event. Dresses need a place to go. . .
However, I’m in and committed to achieving my goal and opening my closet to see hangers filled with clothes I love. . .
