Good Coverage on TGAAD in Time Magazine The total spring cleaning makeover
Mar 25

imgadOK, so I received an invitation to a CAbi party, which, for those of you who don’t know, is a women’s CLOTHING party (are my friends cruel, or what?)!

I initially replied “no” and asked my dear friend why she chose to torture me in this way.  HOWEVER, my friend then countered with this:  “If the temptation is too great I understand but the show is fun and there is absolutely no commitment to buy anything.  I recently went to one of these shows and I thought it was a fun and affordable product line and it may be something I get involved with as a business… I am interested in getting opinions on the line and I like the business model.  So if you change you mind, it may give you more  fodder to blog about!  Imagine the possibilities…. Besides, I do see that you are wasting away and  you will need to cover that skinny naked body!”

Which got me thinking…hmmmm (that’s my thinking sound)… this event could be a fun opportunity to support a friend, enjoy time with OTHER friends, and gain some juicy tidbits to blog about.  Plus, I HAVE lost 20 lbs. and WILL need to buy SOMEthing in a size that actually FITS me (which I promise to blog about when the time comes), so this may be a chance to buy an item or two to get me through.

SOOO… whaddaya think, ladies?  Should I go for it and check out this CAbi fashion show thing, or should I stick with my initial “no” and avoid temptation entirely?

Please weigh in via the comments section… I vow to do whatever the majority rules!  Thanks for you help!

Of course you should go… it’s a social event with friends! If you gave up entry to any store or market that carries clothing, you’d never step out of your front door. It’s like saying that as a vegetarian, I’d never sit at a restaurant where people eat meat. How would life in society continue? No, there’s no need for you to purchase. You have a superhuman power called decision-making.

    Cathy,
It looks like they might have some cool accessories. Do they sell accessories?
I would go, you have will power and you can try to look at it as window shopping.
Plus, I want to hear about the career opportunity. It sounds interesting.

Sounds like a blast to me. Lots of good reasons to go–support a friend, see your buddies, learn something new, check out the latest fashions, plan your post-September shopping, and TEST your willpower! And if you fail, the worst case scenario is that you’ll cheat on this diet, and at 20 pounds down (yay for you!!) and nothing in the closet that fits, well, there are many dieters who have cheated for much less.

Don’t do it out there GAAD colleague, because you and I both know what happens at those things. And they have the wording down soooooo well about “just seeing what you think” etc. Even with the best willpower, there will be something that will be on sale, or not too expensive,or just too cool to walk away from. Plenty of time to shop fully in September. Better idea in my mind? Ask your friends to go for a bike ride, walk, or even happy hour. Big careful on this idea.

    Good Luck with your decision!

Hm, on one hand it sounds like a Pampered Chef party where at some point they go around and ask everyone to say what they’re purchasing in front of the group in order to guilt unsuspecting guests into a purchase.

However, on the other hand, it’s an event to enjoy with friends. I would say proceed with caution and focus on the accessories if your will-power begins to fail.

Also, bring some fluffy chocolate cupcakes slathered in frosting just to throw them all off their game. Show them how it feels to be lured and tempted for a change :P
