While rifling through my “cold-weather” pajama drawer last night for something cozy to sleep in, I found a pair of pink Ralph Lauren pajamas that I purchased last November from the Polo outlet store in Carlsbad. A pair of pajamas, I’ve never worn, complete with the tags still attached. A pair of pajamas that I apparently thought were so cute and such a must-have that I purchased while out Christmas shopping with my sister, Christmas shopping! In other words, when I was supposed to be purchasing gifts for someone other than myself.
I remember this shopping day and purchase decision. Katie and I decided these cute pink pajamas were perfect ‘public’ pajamas. I live alone so often my favorite flannel pajamas, complete with baggy knees and bum, are not pajamas I can or should wear in front of others. The same goes for many of my favorite summer-style pajamas worn bra-less, of course (IMHO, there is not much more uncomfortable than sleeping in a bra). So, I had thought these pink Polo pajamas, complete with a matching hoodie, were the perfect comfy for sleeping yet, modest and well-made enough pajamas to be worn when visiting family or friends.
Yet, here I am, almost an entire year later finding these ‘must-haves’ in my drawer, never worn. And, no, it’s not because I haven’t gone visiting but, because they were buried under another pile of pajamas and forgotten. Clearly, I have plenty of pajamas to have gone almost an entire year without ever encountering these found pajamas in my drawer. How many other clothing items have I purchased like that? Thinking, at the time of purchase, they were a must-have—the perfect solution to a fashion dilemma (pajamas or not)?! How many other purchases (clothing and non-clothing) have I made then brought into my home, never to be touched again? I need to think about this some more. . .
Kerrie, isn’t it amazing to clean out the drawyers and closets to find the “have-to-have” items. I have bought so many things in my past that I couldn’t live with out only to find them tucked away somewhere either harldy worn or with the tags still on them.
