My Confessional… er, Entry This Time Shopping Would Have Saved Me Money!
Jun 02

When I started the Diet, I decided that “shopping from my closet” included wearing every single thing in there, at least once, provided that it a) still fit and b) wasn’t indecent. This is how I came to wear the camouflage denim miniskirt to work last week.

This skirt really is cute, but–it’s the kind of thing you might buy and then go, “But really, where would I wear it?” It’s wider than it is long, and it’s, er, not very wide.

My office has a pretty forgiving dress code so I decided to wear the camo skirt to work last week (on a day with no client meetings). And while I spent a lot of the day tugging it down, it actually passed muster. One colleague even said, “You know, we really should insist on more camo in the office.”

So it’s wearable and I got to shake things up while still staying on the diet. But I do think part of my heightened awareness from this yearlong experiment is to ASK myself, before I buy something again, “really, where will I wear this?”

I love Camo! I don’t know if you have read the book What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life. It is amazing and talks all about the question “where would I wear that?” Camo is testament to the old saying “nothing is new, it’s just new again.”

  2. I know you rocked that camo! I love this idea so much. I found a shirt in my closet the other day with the tags on that I had completely forgotten about. It was just as good as bringing it home in a bag, it felt so nice to wear it.
