I’m a little late. Story of my life. I was sitting in Peet’s Coffee this morning catching up on yesterday’s LA Times. Since GAAD has been on my mind constantly, mostly while I am reminding myself that I am NOT shopping for new clothes for another eleven and a half months, I took great delight in an article called, “Consumers in Charge.” The basic premise was that retailers are having to leave the homogeneity of their brand building days behind and start becoming consumer-centric. It was all well and good that the author was letting me know that “lines such as Tory Burch and Elizabeth and James” will be making portions of their lines “at a lower price point.” Now, I failed to see how this would help my dieting here (nor did I feel any better knowing that Jimmy Choo was bring his potential back-aches to H&M.) What really piqued my interest was when the senior vice president of marketing at Saks Fifth Avenue mentioned that one of the customer comments she got was, “I feel like I shopped like a pig for all those years.” Even the SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING AT SAKS recognized, “Now, there’s more of a thought process that goes into shopping.”
Isn’t that was many of us are hoping to achieve???
Cin, it’s really 9.5 months until we can shop again. We started this on Sept. 1st (not sure when you started exactly). Anyway, the diet officially ends on August 31st, 2010, not that I’m counting.
And on the topic of swine flu–not only did I shop like a pig these past 20 years I oinked along the way. Do you think Swine Flu is payback for all those gluttonous years? It does feel really freeing to not be compelled to spend, spend, spend on items I know I will only wear one or two times. The freedom in frugality.
Hi Cindy! Post a pic of that cute orange handbag I saw you with on Halloween! It was fabulous and you found it at such a discount of a price. Loved seeing you and the girls and by the way – Mia cried all the way home from Laurie’s that night that she already missed the twins!
