Anybody else out there actually “dieting” while on TGAAD? I am and, I must say, I’m both thrilled and anxious that it seems to be “taking” this time. Let me explain. Countless times (I mean it… I’ve truly lost count) over the last four years or so, I’ve made attempts to either go on a diet, eat more healthily, lose a few pounds, or some such version of that general theme. SOMEtimes, these efforts would actually last a few days… even up to a week on a couple of attempts. But most often, it just didn’t “take” and, by the next day, in a state of failure & dejection, I’d be back to my old, not-so-healthy eating habits.
This time, however, it seems to be taking! And don’t ask me why, because I started this thing seven weeks ago when the Holiday Eating Season was just kicking into high gear. Family members told me I was nuts to start a “diet” right before the holidays; but I was so thrilled that something internally had clicked and it was actually working that I didn’t even WANT to “give myself a break” over the holidays.
Anyway, happy as I am, I foresee some dieting dilemmas on the horizon. My healthy eating and weight loss goals are a SMIDGE incompatible with my TGAAD commitment. If I hit my target weight, I should be several sizes smaller than I am now. Luckily, I think I have a few articles of clothing that I saved from smaller-sized days, but certainly not all of the basics I’d need to get me through the next eight months without a clothing purchase. I have considered hosting a clothing swap (and I still may do so), but I really bring nothing of value to that table (I haven’t even been able to come up with 3 acceptable tops for ThredUp exchanges!)
Now that I’m 10 pounds lighter and (knock wood) going strong on this thing, I’m wondering if any of my fellow TGAAD’ers are in the same boat. Anybody else out there losing weight (or trying to) while participating in TGAAD? If so, I want to know: what are you doing or planning to do to remain true to TGAAD while pursuing your weight-loss goals?
Oh my goodness, you are brave to do both diets at the same time. And congrautlations on your success! But that is definitely a bind…ten pounds lighter puts you out of the range of alterations, I suppose… What is our policy on consignment shops? You could make the argument that it’s kind of like a big clothing swap with people you don’t know. If you make sure to bring clothes to sell and only buy using the credit your items generate…
Find a good tailor. I’m not a pro, but I do know how to make clothes. I think skirts you can alter easily into a smaller size or two, but leg and arm holes are trickier.
I love the idea of a clothing swap, but just don’t know how to pull it off – hoping that I can read some posts from TGAAD and learn how!
Congrats on your success!
I lost about 15 pounds right before starting and so had the good fortune of buying a few things that fit before getting going. I will, though, have troubles getting through the year for this reason. So, I have a lot of size 6 pants that I’m happy to trade for size 4 pants. I know, wrong direction for you, but I think a swap will help us all out. Congrats and good luck!
I’m dieting while dieting – I’m lucky that I’m a packrat, and still have my clothing from the last two or three sizes… so I should be able to at least make it through the work week, although there will have to be a lot more laundry!
Congratulations on losing ten pounds!
