The Replacements Mending

I’ve been thinking I should go on a shopping spree before Sept. 1st so I have everything I need for the next year! Needs and wants–it’s something I talk to my daughter about all the time. My desire for new clothes is a want, not a need! That will be my mantra for the next year.

    Hi Barbara-

I did this before I started the diet and honestly with I hadn’t. It is hard to anticipate your needs for a whole year and it is hard to find stuff you will like for a long time on one shopping spree. I ended up returning most items and regretting items which I couldn’t return (bought on final sale or ebay). Buy a few items which you truly need (or *really* badly want) but my experience is that items purchased on shopping sprees don’t create lasting satisfaction.

    Good luck!!

This idea may or may not help. Maybe start with a list- both of wants and needs. Then day dream about your purchases for a week, and then revise your list. Sit on it for another few days, then go shopping. Bring a good friend, and make an event out of it. This will give you some delayed gratification, allow you to build up anticipation for what you want, separate what you want from what you need and give you an opportunity to make an experience out of the shopping trip, which is supposed to be more valuable anyways.

But Sue gives you great advice: you can’t really anticipate your needs 6 months or a year from now anyways. And you probably, like me, have a closet or two (yes, two) filled with great under-loved stuff already. Maybe just jump in, and see how you do.
