Okay…..so I guess there really is something to Karma. I love teaching yoga and spend a lot of time every week at the studio where I teach and practice. I teach a morning class a few days each week and have grown to love waking up and heading to this little studio where eager students await a good sweat. One of the greatest gifts of teaching is watching students break through in their practice…..for example, daily I hear, “I’m stiff as a board and will never be able to do that.” But like magic, with consistent practice and a joyful heart, I get to see those nevers turn into evers.
Running a close second to students and their break-throughs is, well, seeing the latest yoga fashions. You can hear the buzz from across the room….”What a great top. Now who makes that?” And why would we not want to share information and encourage our fellow yogis with the latest and greatest apparel? After all, looking good definitely does make you feel good.
So, I am approached today by a student who says, “Hey, I have something for you.” I thought, “Something for me? Seriously? Can we be exchanging something? Is this proper student/teacher yoga etiquette? A gift? What?” I must admit, I was pretty excited and couldn’t wait to see what might be handed over after class.
As promised, I was handed a small package that unfolded into a very hip black tank. I immediately thought, “She has no idea…..I can’t buy anything and here she is giving me the exact thing my heart desires most….clothing!” A smooth, silky, eco-friendly bamboo tank promising to keep me cool in a heated yoga room and to freshen my always fading yoga wardrobe brought me to BFF status with my student. I thanked and hugged and walked away with a new skip in my step.
Be on the look out for GrassiLove, beautifully and simply designed yoga tanks handmade by Meghann McGivney. Stay tuned for more info. But if you’re on the diet, you’ll have to wait ’til next year. Or just expect some good karma.
Hi there fellow yogini! I stocked up on yoga tanks before the diet knowing that I would be bored to tears with my wardrobe after one year!!! (I taught 36 classes last month, so you can imagine the boredom!) You sound great girlfriend and I’m so happy for your teaching success! Stay in touch…this is going to be an interesting year!
WOW! this is wonderful… thank you so much for the kind/inspiring words! i’m so glad you liked my tank top and are spreading the word
think of it as a kind of thanks for doing what you do. you have no idea what those “morning classes- a few days a week” do for me. i have been battling high anxiety for as long as i can remember, and i feel like i have finally found a way to step out of my own head(even if it’s just for an hour) without relying on medication. i’m glad i could brighten your day like you have mine!
and for those of you NOT on the apparel diet, you can find my tank top at http://www.grassilove.etsy.com
see you in class!!!!
