Day of shopping for shoes, and other good stuff. New Job and Update on the Diet
Sep 27

Today, I was fortunate enough to have strangers offer me clothing.  Or was I????

I was on Vashon Island in a clothing store that had cute boots and I struck up a conversation with a women in her 50’s, and I had to tell her about TGAAD.  After hearing the full story, she then gave me a severe up and down body stare, asking me “What size are you?

Caught off guard, I answered back blinking… “I don’t know a six, maybe a four?”

Then, she leaned in looking pleased and came out with “I may have clothes for you!”

Goodie, I thought, and yet still a little puzzled because she was at least half a foot shorter than I am.  Then, she cleared the air by saying “my mother is giving away all of her clothing and she is more petite than I am.”

“Okay, that explained it (if I am doing the math correctly on this one, her mother would be more petite than her because she may be in her 80’s).  But wait…did she really say her mother?” At this point I am so stunned that all I could say was “thank you…I will call you.”  I took her business card, a financial planner, and got the heck out of there.

I am usually good with remembering verbal detail, but hopefully I made an error on this one.  As my family debated it on the car ride back from Vashon, they all argued that she had to be talking about her daughter.  “No,” my mom insisted, “I was there and she said her mother!”  She supported me and added as a side note that “…and if her mother’s clothes are as bad as your mother’s clothes, you’re going to have a problem.”

My dad added in on the conversation, commenting that “If we see Jill walking the Ave in a moo moo like her mom wears, we’ll know she took the ladies’ clothes.” Ha-ha, the laugh is always on me.

But, I do like to keep with the notion that you never look a gift horse in the mouth.  I am calling this lady and I’ll be open to see what presents itself (and if humor is all I get, I’ll take it!).  In addition, I have noticed that when someone is willing to give you something in one category, they often will shed things unneeded in other areas of their lives.  Keep in mind, I am not interested in her old lingerie, but if she wants to give me all of her antiques, vintage dishware, jewelry or real estate, I wouldn’t pass it up.

So, you never know what being on the Diet will bring you…
