The Cowgirl Jacket
Well, it finally happened. And it wasn’t because of a wispy spring dress either, and I swear there were extenuating circumstances. But cutting to the chase: I bought a second-hand butter-soft Dale Evans cowgirl jacket at a consignment store (reduced 4 times) yesterday. It is awesome. And was cheap. And fits me like a butter-soft glove.
BUT I think the context is important here. My friend Mira is having a formal gala at the Four Seasons, and I of course had nothing to wear. So Mira, acting like a brilliant combination of Rachel Zoe and my Fairy Godmother, invited me to her place to try on gorgeous gown after gorgeous gown–and I left with not one but TWO red-carpet-worthy satin gowns, shoes, hair accessories, the works.
And these are drop-dead gorgeous dresses, ladies. The one I’ll be wearing this month is a snug champagne satin mermaid-style, with sleek criss-cross panels along the waist and spilling into a lovely satiny pool around the feet. The other is Versace-esque aqua green halter number, which Mira and I agreed might be better for the summer gala. I’m telling you, they are fabulous. All I need is for Harry Winston to loan me some bling and I’ll be ready for my closeup. And all borrowed completely free of charge.
After the dressup session, I walked with Mira to a nearby consignment shop while she admired a shawl to accompany her own amazing gown…and while she was trying it on, I saw the jacket.
I tried it on. It was perfect.
So yes, I have cheated, the first time since September–and it felt weird for sure. And yet as I walked home with hundreds of dollars of free borrowed ballgowns I sort of thought I mitigated the purchase overall. Am I kidding myself?
At least now I *know* I won’t be flirting with disaster and those flowery dresses. I will take a cue from you other ladies with the fresh flowers–a much better way to get that spring infusion. And I will ride my palomino into the sunset in my cowgirl butter-soft leather jacket…
Alright! We need to see pictures of you in that slinky dress and of course that jacket.
Have Fun!
Laverne
Pictures please!
OK here’s a photo of the jacket…which I officially love. And *is* recycled, after all. Will see what I can do at the black-tie affair too–perhaps we’ll have real paparazzi.
Pictures of the dress, for sure. You looked gorgeous when I saw you today! Too bad it was too warm for that jacket…
Thanks, Stacya–same back at you. I posted photos of the dress–which I’m about to return to its rightful owner this week. I’ll never forget the good times we had together.
